For my degree dissertation, I explored how design can be used to support individuals with autism. As a spectrum disorder, autism presents differently from person to person, making it a challenge to create designs that cater to everyone. This book outlines key considerations—what to do and what to avoid—when designing for autistic individuals.
To gain real insights, I studied over 20 people across the spectrum and found some common threads. One surprising discovery was their strong familiarity with Comic Sans, which arguably makes it an ideal typeface for accessibility.
That said, I just couldn’t bring myself to use it.
