This project is deeply personal to me, as the book example is inspired by my late grandfather’s life. At its core, it’s about helping those with dementia hold onto their memories for as long as possible. Captions allows users to create custom books filled with personal stories about their loved ones, designed with thoughtful typesetting and imagery to make them more accessible and engaging. Black and white photos from early years are colorized, making them feel more familiar and relatable.
Beyond the physical book, an accompanying app enhances the experience with audio recordings of each page and a digital timeline for those more comfortable with technology. Each time a book is created, another copy is placed in the Captions Memory Library, building an archive to raise awareness of dementia and its impact.
A huge thank you to Creative Conscience for recognizing this project with the Service Award, and to everyone who supported my research. It’s an honor, and I know my grandfather would have been proud.
